Winter Activities

The Ice Breaker Festival in South Haven, Michigan, is a vibrant winter celebration held annually on the first weekend of February. The 31st edition is scheduled for January 31st to February 2nd, 2025. The festival features over 30 blocks of stunning ice sculptures, a chili cook-off, cardboard sled races, and the popular Pub Slide. Visitors can also enjoy horse-drawn wagon rides, s'mores roasting, and outdoor ice skating, making it a must-visit event for winter enthusiasts.

Bittersweet Ski Resort, established in 1982, is a family-owned ski and snowboarding facility located in Otsego, Michigan, just 6 miles from US 131 Highway. The resort features 20 runs, 6 chair lifts—including 2 high-speed lifts—3 wonder carpets, and 2 rope tows, offering a variety of terrain suitable for all skill levels. With amenities like equipment rentals, a ski school, and multiple dining options, Bittersweet provides a comprehensive and enjoyable winter sports experience.

Timber Ridge Ski Area, established in 1961, is Southwest Michigan's oldest ski hill, offering a variety of slopes suitable for all skill levels. The resort features 50 acres of skiing and riding terrain, including the highest natural vertical rise in the region. Amenities include a day lodge, ski and repair shop, and a ski school, making it an ideal destination for winter sports enthusiasts.

Blandford Nature Center in Grand Rapids is a 143-acre facility, giving visitors the opportunity to explore a variety of nature areas along its cross country trails. They offer 8 miles to do cross country skiing, you just have to bring your own equipment It’s also possible to warm up indoors with special exhibits and Blandford’s popular wildlife care program. $5/person for entry - best to call ahead to see if they have the required 4 inches of snow.
